Disabled individuals and certain members of their families may be entitled to other benefits regardless of whether they are eligible for SSD on their own earnings record.  

In this section of our website, we discuss some of these other benefits, including those paid to the dependents of SSD recipients, disabled widows and widowers and children of disabled adults.   We also discuss Medicare, Supplemental Security Income and long term disability insurance benefits.   

We have provided basic information about these benefits. The information has been simplified to make it easier to understand.   The list is not exhaustive, and there are important exceptions to some of the general rules we describe. We invite those with questions about these matters to contact us.
